Woodland Christmas Tree 2016

Another new Christmas tree was completed this week – our Woodland theme tree.  Take a little tour of our Woodland tree and enjoy the natural colors and textures of the forest for your Christmas tree.  A large deer in front, a burlap and natural fiber cabin, and whimsical forest gnomes provide visual focal points amid an overall scheme of forest birds and wildlife, also in natural fibers.  We think you’ll enjoy adding some natural touches to your own holiday displays – and be sure you see the wreaths our floral team created to complement the theme!

Some of the items featured in the tree may be found here:

[Bristle Woodland Animals]     [Bristle Twig Owl]

[Natural Sisal Owl]     [Burlap Bristle Owl]

[Mini Fur Raccoon]     [Deer-Fawn Ornament]

[Reindeer Ornament]     [Vintage Star Ornament]

[Pinecone Branch Ribbon]     [Woodland Theme Collection]

P.S.  Our Labor Day tent sale is still going strong – new merchandise is being put out every day, as we have room to display – so come on back to the parking lot and see what bargains might be just right for your Christmas decorating dreams!

Two for Tuesday

My two picks of the week (a.k.a. the two picks I made that are on the website.  Y’all, this is so much harder than you might think, because we have 10,000 items on our website but we have 30,000+ items in the store!  You’re just going to have to come and see for yourself; I have so many favorites that you can call to order but haven’t yet been added to www.christmasplace.com.  It can be quite maddening, especially if you love Christmas like I do.):

Christmas Collectors

Even if you aren’t a collector, this gazebo would be a great addition to your holiday decorations.  In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Department 56, they have released a special gazebo for the Dickens Village, Snow Village, and North Pole Village.  This is the [North Pole edition gazebo], with Santa and Mrs. Claus offering a toast to all the residents of the Pole as they celebrate the completion of another successful Christmas Eve delivery.  (They do each have a glass raised in celebration, trust me, it’s just hard (impossible) to get into the photograph.)

Stocking Stuffers

Yes, this is where the line begins to try out for the [Reindeer Games]!  Who can resist these crazy reindeer in their knit sweaters and scarves with over-sized noses and booted feet?  Not Santa!  These fellows would look so cute leaping out of a stocking on Christmas morning…

Whimsical Reindeer - Christmas decoration

It’s 116 days to Christmas.  That’s 17 Saturdays.  Yes, you can officially start to get excited about Christmas, please.  We’re here for you!

~Janet @ The Christmas Place

P.S.  Our Labor Day Tent sale starts this Friday – but remember, we’ve moved the tent to a location behind the store, not in the courtyard.  It’s definitely happening, even if can’t see the red-and-white stripes from the parkway.  Come on in and find the bargains you’re looking for to get your holiday decorating underway.

P.P.S.  I almost forgot – National Tailgating Day this Saturday!  For all you North Americans, you know what this means – school colors, a grill, preferably some unhealthy-type food groups.  More to come, but Santa will be tailgating in our courtyard starting at 10 a.m., and the first 500 guests will receive a Santa-autographed football.

Christmas Trees 2016 – “Christmas Cabin”

Our newest Christmas tree theme in the store is already a favorite with elves and guests alike.  The Christmas Cabin theme has a very vintage feel, with classic images of Santa, reindeer ornaments, and snowmen.  We’ve paired a crazy steer made from recycled parts to the mix, along with a classic wooden sled and lots of lights.  This tree has more lights than any similarly-sized tree we’ve ever offered – and it’s quite a show-stopper!

Complimenting the tree decorations is a new collection of dishes, mugs, and flour-sack towels that everyone who loves snowmen will have to have – four different works of snowman art are featured on the two sizes of plates, oversized mugs, and towels.  There’s also a plush snowman wearing a holly wreath necklace and warm ear muffs who’ll keep you company all winter.

Did you notice that we used a tin wash tub on legs as the stand for this tree?  Lots of room underneath for plenty of presents to be dreamed about on Christmas eve.

We hope you enjoy this little Christmas tree tour.  More tree videos will soon be posted, as we have 25 trees to cover this year.

Smoky Mountains Christmas Tree

Those of you who know us know that this is redecorating season, as we make room for all the new decorations arriving daily for Christmas.  The Smoky Mountain room is moving to the end of the hall and receiving a gorgeous makeover – but it’s still under construction for a time. Here’s a sneak peek at what the designers have been up to this week. (Click the link above to see the Smoky Mountain selection on our website.)

Do you recognize this wall? No, you don’t – it’s brand new!

Interior wall newly resurfaced with rough wood siding and large windows.

There’s our big, carved, Smoky Bear, taking donations for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  And yes, there’s an outhouse back there..wonder what’s inside?  Maybe later…here’s the tree – with plaid-clad elves, a plaid reindeer, and a colorful ski lodge theme.

Paradise…it says “Just Another Day In Paradise!”

A bird in the hand is worth two on the branch?  We’re changing that to “put another bird in your shopping basket, honey, y’all can’t have too many birds!”  Under construction…

Birds perched on lighted branches, the beginnings of a new display.

And finally, we’ll leave you with this:  any guesses as to what this will become?  Only time will tell the story!

Birch trees lined up against a wall, with a large wooden spool in front - soon to be a new merchandise display for something fun.

We love where you’re going with your design, team! I’ll be back later in the summer with more pictures of our Smoky Mountain room. I hope you’ll come to see it for yourself, too!

P.S.  This is the final weekend of our tent sale – still lots of great stuffing going under the big top every day – come and shop before it ends on Sunday, June 5th!

Snowbabies!

It has been more than 25 years since Kristi Jensen Pierro first revived the Snowbabies collectible with her simple, sweet drawings and bisque figurines for Department 56.  In the tradition of figures dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, she draws inspiration from her own life experiences, photos, and stories expressed through designs reflecting the activities of small children.  Many years later, her designs continue to gain popularity as her themes have kept up with modern society – like “Spa Date” and “Zero Calorie Cupcake” – wouldn’t we love both of those in real life?!  Here are some photos from releases this year.  In addition to updated themes, Snowbabies now frequently come with colorful knit accessories and glittering accents.  The Snowbabies themselves are generally about 3″ to 4″ tall – don’t be fooled by these larger-than-life photographs.

SnowDreams - adding a little glitter for the holidays!

Animals are often featured in the Snowbabies collection – especially the polar variety!

This snowman is lit from within for a warm glow on a winter's night.

Snowbabies Baby - we can personalize many of these for a new wee addition to the family!

Snowbabies also come from many popular children’s stories and personalities, such as The Wizard of Oz, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Cinderella,  Winnie the Pooh, Kermit & Miss Piggy, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, and more.

The Tin Man

You will also find Snowbabies around at Easter time with decorated eggs and cute little bunnies.

"Somebunny Special"

Snowbabies are also made in a wide variety of ornaments (many of which we will personalize for you here in the store!).  The glittering shadow box series is new in red this year.

Shadow Box Ornaments

You’ll often find Snowbabies collections on display year round.  Made from porcelain bisque with hand-painted faces and hand-applied detailing, each is meticulously crafted – and very charming!  Those unique “snow crystals” are made by a process of forcing a clay mixture through a series of increasingly fine screens until the right shaving stage is achieved.  Each figure is then painted with a bisque slip and the shavings are carefully applied in the proper areas.
The variety of styles in both figurines and ornaments, including many angel-themed pieces, make Snowbabies a wonderful gift for so many occasions – new baby, girlfriend fun, family events, and, of course, at Christmas.  There are also several varieties of accessory trees in colors to compliment the Snowbabies series.  Take a closer look at these delightful babies and their friends – you just might meet a new friend yourself!
Keep it snowy!

P.S.  Don’t forget our Department 56 artist signing on Saturday, November 2nd, with Scott Enter.  Although he designs primarily for the village collection, as a representative of Department 56’s creative team, he will sign Snowbabies on request.  Details will be posted on our Event Calendar next week.

Have you put up your Christmas lights yet?

On the road I travel each day, there is a house that has been displaying Christmas lights since early October.  I say, two thumbs up!  It’s such a pick-me-up to enjoy those colorful lights on a night when I’ve been at the office later than planned…

Well, we’ve done the same here at Christmas Place – this has been a week of lighting up the courtyard for Christmas!  I don’t have any after-dark photos yet, but here are some just-at-dusk pictures I caught yesterday.

Look at this handsome rig we have added below the clock.

Santa & Reindeer all a-glow!

You’ll also see some new elf friends alongside our reindeer.

I'm not sure he's feeling all that merry today, what do you think?

Now check out our lights.  Okay, you may have to squint a little for this picture – the wreaths & the garland are lighted, as well as all the rooflines.

I mean, don’t we all have our own cherry-pickers so we can light up the house and yard??  Hope you come down to see our lights, as well as the Winterfest lights that are on display all the way from Sevierville through Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg.

P.S. May I share one more photo?  I had the priviledge of attending a Salute to Veterans luncheon at the Dixie Stampede today, and was even seated next to the guest of honor, Sgt. Ed Douglas from just up the road in Morristown.  His battalion cleared 2,500 miles of roads in Afghanistan last year, without any loss of life, even though they were bombed many, many times.  (They also got to enjoy 8″ of snow for Thanksgiving, which we did not.)  This Sunday is Veterans Day, and we hope that you will thank a veteran when you have the opportunity.  Sgt. Douglas said that it is not a burden, but an honor to serve the U.S.  The burden is in being away from family and friends.  Thank you, Sgt. Douglas and all veterans!  (Dad, two uncles, my sister, two brothers-in-law, and many personal friends – and now children of my friends – thank you!)

Christmas trees! More Christmas trees! (part 2)

Enjoy some more …

Wouldn’t everyone use barbed wire on their Western Christmas tree?   (I think it’s made of leather, actually.)

Check out the pheasants in the top of the tree:

This one was one of the hardest to photograph – it is so very sparkly, from the stems added as decorations to the foil accents and multitude of light strands and lighted stems – it sparkles much more than I can show here.  Someone catch that Elf before he falls off the top hat!

Do you see the reindeer flying a plane out of the middle of the tree?  I’ll help with another photo:

Poor girl has lost a propeller blade!  I hope it’s around to be reattached.

Santa’s helping the elf jesters and getting into the decorating spirit!

I really love the swirly red & green stems!

Two for Tuesday

We have some new friends in the store this year, and I think you might like to meet them…

First, well, you’ve probably already met the big guy ..

Santa & Roy

.. but that Roy is quite the charmer!  Roy is joined by ..

Albert & Jimmy

.. clearly Albert is none to happy about Jimmy choosing his magnificent antlers for a nap! (Elf sold separately.)

And there’s just something about Bob ..

Bob & Mikey

The elves find him irresistible, too, even with that big nose – at least his doesn’t glow in the dark!  Looks like Mikey is hitching a ride back to the north pole. (Elf sold separately.)

I found another Santa sitting in the breezeway yesterday, just waiting for a friend.  Could you be the one?

Santa's waiting for you!

I have seen a few smaller versions of these very funny reindeer around the store, so if whimsy is your theme, come by and check them out!

And now, from Really Big Decorations to a collection I think would be a perfect stocking stuffer ~ you might want to buy one of each and keep them around for occasions when you just want one little gift for someone special. These porcelain plaques are about 5″ square (the larger one is 5″ x 6.5″) and have two brass hangers securely attached to the back.  They come with the velvet bows you see here, and retail for only $11.99, a great value!

There are several more styles, these three just happen to be my favorites!  I love the dimensionality they have – the letters and decorations are raised, and the colors are rich and elegant.

Only 92 days til Christmas, and we are starting to feel the excitement!  Don’t forget about all the artists coming to visit the store over the next three months – check out the list here.  We’ve just added performances by a local seniors choir and a high school handbell choir, both of which are quite excellent.

Two for Tuesday

I enjoy the whimsical things in life, and these animal ornaments fit right in when I noticed the little tags they bear – oink, moo, and baa.  That just makes me laugh!

And now for something totally elegant…a handsome deer pair with stylized metal antlers, decorated with holly and carved seasonal landscapes.

Aren’t they extraordinary??

We’re having a cold, sunny day here – I have hesitated to mention the snow on the mountains because ours is mostly beautiful when so many others were snowed under this week.  I’ll have some pictures to share tomorrow, nonetheless – you’ll enjoy.

Two for Tuesday

I have picked out a couple of very elegant reindeer poised to pull Santa’s sleigh this year.  Both of these gentlemen surely promise a smooth and speedy ride, wouldn’t you say?

Regal in gold and white or exceptionally distinguished in jewel-encrusted gold gilt.

These two graceful and stylish characters will add real glamour to your holidays!
