Two for Tuesday – Christmas Decorations

I’m thinking it’s a beauty and a cutie, both on one tree in the Christmas Gallery.  Every tree needs both large and small decorations, as well as sizes in between, for balance and a pleasing aspect.

This distressed-finish [red lantern] is a foot tall (without the handle), and can be used indoors or out.  We’ve added a flameless [burgundy Luminara candle] (not included), and a [plaid ribbon] around the top for a splash of polish and elegance.  I’m also kind of mad for [this cardinal ribbon with greetings] and [this cardinal ribbon] in the picture, too!

Red Lantern

Just love this tiny little winter scene of a brown budgie perched outside his snow covered bird house.  A second bird is hidden behind the tree branch, and a heavy winter frost coats the entire ornament. There is a second style for this ornament; [see them both here.]

Bird & Bird House Ornament

Your Christmas tree will be more interesting and pleasing to view if you include ornaments and decorations in multiple sizes – start with the largest items first (three to five as focal points around the tree at different heights), and add more ornaments as you go down in size with each layer of decorations.  That’s how a 12″ lantern and a 3″ birdhouse work in concert to make beautiful music on your tree!  Okay, I don’t know why I went musical just then, but you get the analogy, right?!  It all works harmoniously together.

We hope you’ll share some of your favorite design ideas and elements with us, either by e-mailing santa@christmasplace.com, or come on over and visit [our Facebook page] and share some pictures with us there.

P.S. Coming up this weekend, a signing with the creators of the collectible dog breed ornaments, [Joy to the World Collectibles].  If your best friend is an unique breed, come and take a look at these gorgeous glass ornaments – something outstanding for your Christmas tree!

Two for Tuesday

I don’t know why I started this with only two –  I complain about that a lot, don’t I?  Well, I’m sorry.  But if you were here in the store with me every day, you’d find it just as hard.

I don’t remember if I’ve yet shared a photo of Santa Claus this year – we just celebrated National Tailgating Day on Saturday, and Santa was in his football jersey, autographing mini footballs for his fans. We may be “All Vols” here at Christmas Place – but we sure wouldn’t turn away any other SEC team fans – or any football fans.  Sports fans, we just love all sports fans.  And spectators.  We love you, too!  Anyway, not the point, Santa is here Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  It’s a great time to come and meet him and get a head start on your Christmas card photo session for 2016.  [But if you, too, are All Vol, click here for some UT items!]

Santa tailgating in the courtyard

I hesitate to share this next one, because I know it might inspire a lot of un-Christmas-like envy in some of you .. but here goes.  Yes, if this is your idea of heaven for a workplace, you may have a future on the Christmas Place floral team!  Here, in a secret location in the store, is found a veritable wonderland of design resources.  And yes, I could only enter this room in a pocket-less jumpsuit with booties over my shoes.  True story.  [Click here if you’re immediately inspired to stock up on your holiday ribbons!]

Floral Area Work Station

Okay, yes, I was kidding about the booties!  Wouldn’t you love to have all these design riches at your fingertips each day?  Come to think of it, we probably have some very similar ribbon bolts and floral stems on sale (70% off) in our tent right now.  Hmmm.  Of course, all of this will work in your Christmas tree as well as your garland, wreaths, swags, and other arrangements.

P.S.  Our Labor Day tent sale continues through Sunday, September 18th – if we don’t run out of goodies before then!  Shop early, and shop often – we’re putting out new things every day, as we have room for them.  You’ll find the tent behind the store.

Just for fun .. look who was on time to work this morning – Ms. Canada Goose with two of her goslings! They love the river behind the store for a morning swim. One of the mamas has 10 babies to herd, I’ve been told – I’m hoping to see her soon.

2012 Trees – Snowy Woodland Bear Tree

I love making up my own names for the trees in the store.  Here’s a 12′ tree, flocked and filled with woodland kinds of ornaments, black bears, and beautiful red accents.  It starts with two almost-life-sized bears, dressed to keep warm for the winter.  I couldn’t stop taking pictures of this one, so forgive me if I’m repetetive here – I have {mad love} for the decor on this tree!  You’ll find many of the items on this tree in our Woodland Theme collection, and you might want to mix in some Cabin Theme, too (We have put together 132 themes on our website this year.)

Smoky Bear on skis!

I love those red-red-red pine cones!  They have just a touch of glitter, and look great with a little snow on top.

As always, you should be able to click twice on the pictures to see them full sized (not a double click, but click again on the next screen) – I like to make them as large as possible, so you can see more of the details.

What theme are you working on this year?  I have more to show you!

~Janet @ The Christmas Place

P.S. Don’t forget our two artist signings this weekend (November 17th & 18th, 2012) – Mario Tare, the Christopher Radko Company designer on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m.; and R.J. McDonald with his Santa pictures on both Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Come and see all the new lights we’ve added to our courtyard & buildings this year – it’s quite beautiful!

Bow-Tying ~ You can do it, too!

We’re having bow-tying classes on Saturdays at 2 p.m., and sometimes on Fridays .. like today!  The great thing is, all ribbon in the store is 50% off on demonstration days.  Almost all of the ribbon we carry, in hundreds of colors and styles, is wired, making it even easier to work with.

So, pick out two bolts of ribbon that make you happy together – don’t cut off a length, just work from the bolt.  Both of these make me happy because they are so sparkly and glittery!

Then there is some complicated and tricky looping and pleating and scrunching .. I hope I’m not too technical for you here.  {I’m kidding!}  Our experts can teach anyone these simple techniques.

First Loop

Scrunch Tight

Add a chenille pipe cleaner and twist tight.

Twist - Twist - Twist!

With a little direction from our floral team, Ta-Da!  It’s a beautiful bow!

A Beautiful Creation

We attached our sample bow to one of our ever-popular mesh boxes – which look particularly spectacular when you fill the box with a strand of rice lights for a soft glow.

Our Floral pros Prissy, Betsy, Dori & Ginger are always happy to demonstrate a technique or help with floral and ribbon recommendations.

Today and tomorrow, all ribbon bolts in the store are 50% off.  We’re also running a weekday & Sunday special – buy two bolts, receive a third bolt free (of lesser or equal value).  We have so many to choose from, you’ll have a hard time deciding on your favorties!  Come on down to the store, or shop on-line for the best ribbon deals.

~Janet @ The Christmas Place

P.S. Take advantage of our sale and start planning your 2011 Christmas color scheme!

Ribbon Sale!

Going on in the store right now we’re having a HUGE ribbon sale – buy 3 rolls, get a 4th roll free (of equal or lesser value).

Every roll of ribbon in the store is included – even bolts that are already on sale!

We have a wide selection of colors and styles from which to choose.  It’s a great time to plan your colors for this Christmas.
