Y’all, it’s gonna be a hot one!

Hot, hot weekend .. hot, hot bargains at the tent sale!  I’ve just been down scoping out the sale setup, and the scoop is that we’ll have floral stems for as little as $1 each.  I saw a big box brimming with beautiful $2 stems, and lots more.  See anything here that catches your eye?  Our Elf Associates will have it all in order for opening at 9:00 AM on Friday.

After you shop, or before, or during .. cool cool it down with ice cream!  Delivery’s coming first thing on Friday, so we’ll have plenty on hand to help you chill .. choose your flavor – or go for a fudge puppy ~ Belgian waffle dipped in chocolate fudge and topped with whipped cream .. dreamy.

Pans of fresh fudge waiting to be cut & weighed for you.

We’re bringing the big chill inside the store, too – check out the new lights going onto the big tree.  Brrrrrrrr!

It’s a winter wonderland in May on the parkway.  However you choose to celebrate Memorial Day, make it a special time!

P.S. Remember, we can’t run the tent sale on line, but you’ll find plenty of sale bargains at www.christmasplace.com.

Memorial Weekend Sale!

Have you ever wanted an item from one of our fabulous displays, only to be told we wouldn’t be able to sell it until the display was removed?  Well, now is your chance – we’re selling some display items – treasures we found languishing in the attic, discontinued items from the basement, and a few things in between.  If you’re in Pigeon Forge this weekend, look for the big white tent in our courtyard and come shopping!

We can’t offer these items on the internet because, in many cases, there is only one of a treasure, but we’ll have plenty of specials on line, for those of you staying close to home for the long weekend – in fact, if we have your e-mail, be on the watch for our first monthly sales flyer.  We’re going to send some extra-special offers to your in-box on the 25th of each month, starting this month.

Christmas Place honors all fallen service men, women, and animals who have given their lives so that we may enjoy freedom today.

“I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day.  I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it.  We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.”  ~Benjamin Harrison

P.S.  It’s going to be a warm weekend, but not to worry – Mrs. Claus’ Candy Kitchen will help – with creamy milkshakes, scoops of ice cream, and ice-cold water & sodas!

Classic Chevrolets

When I was a kid, my dad always called the impalas we saw grazing and racing across the African plains “Chevys” by mistake, and we had to correct him (and always enjoyed the joke).  Well, you won’t find a Chevy Impala over at The Inn at Christmas Place today – it’s the weekend of the Chevy Classic Car Show – but only for 1955, 1956, and 1957 models – and are they ever gorgeous.   Take a look at a few of these beauties.

The show begins in earnest tomorrow, when the entire parking lot will be a staging ground for the meticulously-maintained show cars.  The show is free and open to the public for viewing and some serious car talk.

There is also a large concessions area behind the car show, with booths for everything from classic Chevy auto parts and accessories to food and general interest items.

I can never decide just which is my favorite – but the convertibles are hard to beat.  We couldn’t ask for better weather – so if you’re in the neighborhood, come by and take a look.

P.S. While you’re here, take a tour of our hotel’s public areas and check out the Christmas in July calendar in the lobby – we have a terrific lineup for the month.  It’s also a great time to book your family for our new Pigeon Forge Family Fun package!

Department 56 Snow Village

Our Department 56 diva has begun setting up the new village pieces for 2012.  I thought I’d offer a sneak peek at what she has been up to, starting with Snow Village.  Please don’t tell her I did this, because I know she’s not totally finished yet and she may try to hide my beloved camera from me for this!

(It helps to have some terrific artists on staff for the backgrounds.)

We know that some of you keep your villages on display all year round, too, not just at Christmas.  If you’ve had fun with a particular display, share your tips with us and the rest of our readers.  It’s amazing how creative you can be with these lighted houses and accessories.  I’m a fan of the tall bookcase with houses interspersed among books and other collectibles on the shelves.

We’re planning to film a brief video demonstration of each village collection (brief, ha!  Have you ever gotten that girl started talking about all she knows about D56?!) to offer to our viewers in a few weeks.  If there’s something in particular you’d like to know more about, leave your request in the comments and we will put it on the production list.  She’s promised to share some designer secrets that you can easily do at home.  Then you can send us your own village pics for our customer scrapbook (over on Facebook).

And speaking of Department 56, the date has been set for our artist signing this year – Scott Enter will visit the store on Saturday, November 3rd, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.  We’ll also have our Secondary Market tent sale for retired pieces on Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 3-4th.  If you’d like to rent a table and bring your collection to sell, call Teresa Hughes at 800-445-3396, extension 148.  There is still space available right now.

P.S. Remember, please don’t tell her that I showed you these pictures – but feel free to steal any of our ideas!

Dolly Parade Today!

Today is the day of the annual Dolly homecoming parade in Pigeon Forge, and Santa’s float is being polished and primed even now!  Hope you’ll have a chance to come down and wave at us in the parade – at 6 pm on the Parkway, starting at light 6 and heading north to light 3.  We’re about halfway back in the parade this year, and Mrs. Claus as well as Uncle Sam will be riding along with us this year.

We’re also expecting an extra special guest on the float with us – Kaedyn Griffin, a student at Sevierville Primary School, was the winner of our drawing contest last November, and she’ll be riding with Santa today.  We’re sure happy to have Kaedyn aboard!

Just remember that it is NOT weird to shout “Merry Christmas!” in May, particularly if you are shouting it out to Santa and his team of elves in the Dolly Parade!

~Janet @ The Christmas Place

P.S.  We will also accept Feliz Navidad, Mele Kalikimaka, Joyeux Noel, Fröhliche Weihnachten, E ku odun, e ku iye’dun!, and any other language you would like to use to share your holiday spirit!

Around Christmas Place

It’s technically still “winter” for us around here, as we’ve got lots of construction and remodeling projects underway to get ready for summer – and your next visit to our little corner of paradise here at Traffic Light 2A on the Parkway!  Here are some images that caught my camera last week.

Raising the roof – every building is being reroofed!

Remember those walls we put up a few weeks ago?  All is now revealed!  We’ve opened up the spaces between the front entrance, the old toy store, and right into the Personalizing gallery.

When the walls come tumbling down ..

New spaces are revealed!

We’re excited to find out what our design team has in mind for the newly-painted area that previously housed our toy store.

Cool waters for a hot spring day.

Our Parkway Oasis!

No fishing, please.

The Big Kahuna in the Little Pond.

Have you toasted marshmallows with us around our fire pit?

Beautiful blooms at The Partridge & Pear Restaurant.

A beautiful thing I found – an egg, hand-painted with a Nativity scene.  I think it is an ostrich egg, as it is quite large; we are keeping it under a glass dome.

Brilliant Vera Bradley summer-pattern bags – just luscious!  Making me want to plan a vacation somewhere sunny just so I’ll need one of these colorful bags for the trip….

MAD LOVE for these Home Grown veggie critters!

Okay, time to get back to work.  But I will leave you with one more image – a photo of a new threat now looming over the city…

Giant Ape Attacks Pigeon Forge!

Thanks for joining me for a stroll around our place.  What’s happening in your neighborhood?
